Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Ethos mobile application (“Ethos” or the “App”), provided by Technologies Aurealis Inc. (“Aurealis,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account or using Ethos, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

These Terms should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle your personal information.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Ethos. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian.

2. Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for any activity that occurs under your account. You agree to provide accurate information when registering and to keep that information current.

3. Subscription Plans

Ethos Pro is offered as an auto-renewable subscription:

Ethos Pro Annual — $29.99 CAD per year, with a 7-day free trial for new users.
Ethos Pro Monthly — $4.99 CAD per month, no trial.

Prices listed are in Canadian dollars. Apple automatically converts to your local currency at checkout based on Apple's regional pricing tiers. The exact local price will be shown on the subscription screen before you confirm purchase.

Payment will be charged to your Apple Account upon confirmation of purchase. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) at the price listed above unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

To manage or cancel your subscription:

Open Settings on your iPhone
Tap your name → Subscriptions → Ethos
Tap Cancel Subscription

Alternatively, visit apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.

Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.

Restore Purchases is available within the Ethos app at Settings → Restore Purchases. If you have previously purchased Ethos Pro on the same Apple ID, this will reactivate your subscription on any device where you sign in.

4. AI-Generated Content — Disclaimer

Devotionals, prayers, and scripture interpretations in Ethos are generated by artificial intelligence based on the verse and emotion you select and on any reflection text you submit. They are not:

Pastoral counsel, spiritual direction, or pastoral care
Theological or doctrinal advice
A substitute for professional spiritual or pastoral guidance
An expression of any particular denominational interpretation, tradition, or authority

AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies, omissions, or interpretations that do not reflect any specific Christian tradition. We make no representation that generated content is theologically authoritative. You are responsible for evaluating generated content in light of your own faith, conscience, and the guidance of qualified pastoral or spiritual leaders.

5. Mental Health and Crisis Disclaimer

Ethos is a faith and personal-growth tool. It is not a mental health service, medical service, crisis service, or substitute for professional care. Some emotions handled by the App — including anxiety, grief, anger, and loneliness — may overlap with mental-health conditions. The App does not diagnose, treat, or monitor any condition.

If you are in crisis, experiencing thoughts of self-harm, or facing a mental health emergency, please contact a qualified professional or your local emergency services immediately.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Use Ethos for any unlawful, harmful, harassing, or abusive purpose
Submit content intended to harm, threaten, or defame others
Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the App
Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any associated systems
Use the App or its outputs to develop a competing product or to train machine-learning models
Bypass authentication, subscription validation, or any security control
Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the App or its services without our written consent

7. Reporting Inappropriate Content

Every AI-generated message in Bible Chat and Go Deeper has a long-press “Report this message” action. You may also report content from Settings → Help → Report content, which opens an email to contact@aurealis.live.

Reports are reviewed within 24 hours. Reported messages are stored in our content_reports database (linked to your account) for up to 1 year for safety review purposes, then deleted. Users who repeatedly submit prompts designed to elicit prohibited content may be suspended.

8. Intellectual Property

The Ethos name, logo, application code, design, copy, and original content are the property of Technologies Aurealis Inc. and are protected by intellectual property laws. AI-generated devotionals, prayers, and interpretations produced for you are made available for your personal, non-commercial use within the App. You may not republish, sell, or use them to train machine-learning models.

Scripture text: Bible passages displayed in Ethos are sourced from the World English Bible (WEB) translation, which is in the public domain. We acknowledge the WEB translation as the source of scripture text used within the App.

9. User Content

You retain ownership of the reflection text and inputs you submit to Ethos. By submitting content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to process that content solely to operate the App and deliver the experience you request (including transmitting the content to OpenAI as described in our Privacy Policy). This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except to the extent processing has already occurred.

10. Third-Party Services

Ethos relies on third-party services, including Apple, OpenAI, Supabase, RevenueCat, and PostHog. Your use of those services through Ethos is also subject to their respective terms. We are not responsible for the practices of third parties beyond our contractual relationship with them.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

Ethos is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that AI-generated content will be accurate, complete, or appropriate for your circumstances.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Technologies Aurealis Inc. shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use Ethos, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to Ethos shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) US$50.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Aurealis, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from:

(a) your use of the App, including any text, queries, or content you submit to Bible Chat, Go Deeper, or the daily reflection field;
(b) AI-generated responses that result from your prompts, including any reliance you place on such responses;
(c) your violation of these Terms;
(d) your violation of any applicable law or third-party right.

You acknowledge that AI responses are generated probabilistically and may contain inaccuracies or unintended content. You are responsible for evaluating the accuracy and appropriateness of any AI-generated content before acting on it.

14. Termination

You may stop using Ethos and delete your account at any time from within the App. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or use the App in a way that risks harm to others or to our systems. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Intellectual Property, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, Indemnification, and Governing Law) will survive.

15. Apple App Store

These Terms are between you and Aurealis only, not with Apple Inc. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.

Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple shall have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

You agree to comply with all applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the App, including the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

You represent and warrant that (a) you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country; and (b) you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance and support services with respect to the App. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple will have no warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the App. Any claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to any warranty will be the sole responsibility of Aurealis.

In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price for the App (if applicable); to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple will have no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the App.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App shall be brought exclusively in the courts located in the judicial district of Montréal, Quebec, except where mandatory consumer-protection law in your place of residence requires otherwise.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the App or by email and will take effect on the date stated in the notice. Continued use of Ethos after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
